Episode 4: Hypersonics with Raymond Kaminski

Raymond Kaminski, former senior lead engineer at NASA, VP at Goldman Sachs, and currently the CEO and founder of ibble, joins us to talk about rockets! We touch on his role at HyperSciences, and the visionary CEO Mark Russell, before diving into the behind the scenes story on how they brought launch capabilities to SXSW in 2019. No rocket conversation would be complete without talking about Blue Origin and SpaceX or the scary stuff - the next arms race.

SHOWNOTES

In this episode, Raymond Kaminski joins the show. He is a successful multi-disciplinary leader working with amazing people at global innovators including NASA (Senior Engineer); Goldman Sachs (VP - Product Strategy); HyperSciences (COO); and ibble (Co-Founder and CEO).

-Raymond’s background (a favorite story).

-The journey of HyperSciences chugging along and getting government contracts.

-Discussion about Jeff Bezos over at Blue Origin, that he was trying to find a cheaper and safer way to fly in flight payloads and maybe at one day humans.

-Difference between scientists and engineers

-How we, as humans, are turning to a hypersonics race right now based on who can build not only the weaponry towards it, but the defensive side to protect other countries.

-Have a good test region to go and start the engine. This rocket lifts up to upper atmosphere, drops the rocket off with your test vehicle fires it.

-The system to get hundreds of tests done maybe in a week, you're consistently making changes and you're giving the engineers better data to work off, better models to work at.

-What question do we still hold internal?

-How other people tried first to do commercial space flight.

Quote:

“It's always hard for the first person that really push the boundary and move people forward unlike where most people think it wasn't that SpaceX was the first commercial entity that was out there doing space flight. There was others that were trying to go and do it and SpaceX made it happen.”
